1989 kam es zur sogenannten „Wende“, die Mauer fiel und am 3. Oktober 1990 (Nationalfeiertag) kam es zur Wiedervereinigung des geteilten Deutschlands und die DDR trat dem Geltungsbereich des Grundgesetzes bei.
In 1989, the so-called “Wende” (German for ‘turning point’) took place: Communism collapsed and the wall was opened. Germany was reunited on October 3 1990 (now a national holiday). The GDR acceded to the area of application of the Basic Law of the Federal Republic.
